Hugo's ideal home

Once Hugo gets to know you he is very friendly and excitable and will jump up for a fuss. He doesn’t understand he is a big dog and could be a bit of a surprise if you’re not expecting it! However, he does have a bit of an anxious side and can be nervous at times and will need new owners to continue any on going training and will benefit from meeting his new family a few times before he goes home. He was previously housetrained but may need a refresher in his new home. He eats well and isn’t a greedy dog, if he doesn’t fancy the treat you are offering, he will walk away. When he does take treats, he is very gentle. He could potentially live with another dog in his new home after a successful meet at the centre. He loves his walks, but he can be a bit strong on the lead; training would be useful to help in this area. Anytime left alone will need to be built up to begin with leaving him with lots of things to do to keep him busy. Hugo travels better in the boot of the car; when he has been on the back seat, he has got a bit stressed, maybe because it isn’t as stable as the boot. Hugo is a clever boy and he knows a few commands – Sit, down and stay are the main ones. He isn’t a huge fan of the vacuum so this could be a good excuse for any potential adopter to get out of this chore. However, he will happily stay in another room if you really need to clean up.

Hugo is looking for an adult only home, with owners who will give him lots of time to settle in and be understanding of his worries. He is very typical of the breed, day to day he is a chilled out young chap. He has recently had surgery to correct his breathing difficulties, but the surgeon is very happy with his progress and feels he can have a relatively normal life going forward.
